On October 6, 2012 Hanover Safe Place will host its 14th Annual Pumpkin Run, a race to end domestic and sexual violence. Hanover Safe Place provides services to victims of domestic and sexual violence in Hanover County and the Town of Ashland. In the last year, HSP provided support through a confidential, 24-hour hotline to 985 people. HSP also sheltered 49 people, while turning away 231 families due to lack of shelter space. Families who were denied shelter were offered/provided other services such as case management, counseling, support group and more. The total number of individuals served by HSP in the last year was 1,535. HSP uses the Pumpkin Run as a fundraiser, and an awareness event.
Held at the Ashland Berry Farm, in Beaverdam, the Pumpkin Run is a 5k trail run through the pumpkin patches. Participants can choose from the following events: 5k run, 5k walk, or 1 mile fun walk. Included in the Kid’s Fun Area this year will be face painting, popcorn, sno-cones and more, all for free!
Each participant receives a free pumpkin and a t-shirt.
Registration is open on site until 8:30am on October 6th.
