Hanover Sheriff’s Office investigating unmarked vehicle collision with pedestrian

The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a crash involving a pedestrian that was struck by a Sheriff’s Office vehicle earlier today.  According to a statement released by the HCSO, the crash occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of South Washington Highway and Junction Drive in the Town of Ashland.

The pedestrian, identified as a 24-year-old male of Ashland, was transported to VCU Medical Center with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.  The deputy involved sustained minor injuries.

Based upon independent eye witness accounts, preliminary investigation indicates that a deputy operating an unmarked 2006 Ford Crown Victoria was traveling south on S. Washington Highway near the intersection of Junction Drive when he struck a pedestrian, who was attempting to cross the street from the median.

All accounts indicate that the deputy was proceeding with traffic through a green light when the crash occurred.  The crash remains under investigation.
