Tractor-trailer loaded with squash overturns on I-95

The driver of a tractor-trailer that overturned on Interstate 95 early Sunday morning was charged with reckless driving following the accident.

Shortly after 3:30 a.m. April 21, Virginia State Police responded to the single-vehicle crash on I-95 northbound, south of Exit 92 in Hanover County. According to Sgt. Thomas Molnar, Elijah Webster, 42, of Lakeland, Fla. was driving a 1997 International tractor-trailer, when it ran off the left side of the roadway striking the guardrail. The tractor-trailer then overturned onto the driver’s side and struck the overhead sign post that spans all of the northbound travel lanes.

Webster was wearing his safety belt and suffered minor injuries during the crash. He was assessed at the scene by emergency medical technicians and later charged with reckless driving.

The trailer was loaded with approximately 75,000 pounds of squash. The left and center lanes of northbound I-95 were closed to allow for cleanup.
