Hanover Sheriff’s Office anticipates heavy traffic during NASCAR stop
Hanover officials warn of heavy traffic later this week as the NASCAR Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series races come to town.
The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office anticipates traffic congestion in the Mechanicsville area during the NASCAR races to be held this week at the Richmond International Raceway in Henrico County. Citizens are encouraged to plan in advance to avoid traffic congestion that will be caused by this event.
On Friday, April 26, the NASCAR Nationwide Series 250 race will be held at 7:30 p.m., which will affect the afternoon rush hour commute.
On Saturday, April 27, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series 400 race will start at 7:30 p.m. Traffic will be congested on Meadowbridge Road all day, with the most congestion occurring mid-morning and late evening (before and after the race).
For citizens traveling on I-295, the Route 301 (Chamberlayne Road) or the Route 360 (Mechanicsville Turnpike) exits are recommended as alternatives to the Meadowbridge Road exit. In addition, citizens are encouraged to avoid Atlee Road, especially on Saturday, and utilize Shady Grove Road as an alternative.
On both days, deputies will monitor Meadowbridge Road closely and assist with traffic direction when needed. On Saturday, deputies will be stationed at each intersection on Meadowbridge Road to monitor traffic flow and render assistance to motorists in need.
The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office says its goal is ”to facilitate the safe flow of traffic for this special event in such a way that causes minimal inconvenience to our citizens.”
