Norman R. Bugge, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nancy T. Bugge; daughter, Deena; son, Kris and his wife Susan; two granddaughters, Brittany and Aubrey, of Chapel Hill, N.C. Norman served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked for C&P Telephone Co. and served as Treasurer for St. James the Less Episcopal Church. He worked with the Strawberry Faire, Hanover Humane Society and Habitat for Humanity. Norman enjoyed woodworking and had crafted items for Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Randolph-Macon College, and other members of the community. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Salvation Army or St. James the Less Episcopal Church. Memorial services were held Saturday, June 22, 2013 at St. James the Less Episcopal Church.
George T. “Blue” Burton, 83, of Mechanicsville, passed away Monday, June 10, 2013 after a long battle with Alzheimers. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris Burton; three children, Doug Burton (M.K.), Gayle Trent (Todd Steigleder) and Mike Burton (Kim); seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Blue, was a former Late Model Stock Car owner of Car #33 for the better part of two decades, and was a retired electrician after over 30 years of service with IBEW Local Union #666. The family received friends Thursday and Friday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, where services were held Saturday, June 15, 2013. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. Nancy Lavender Corker, of Old Church, went to be with the Lord June 11, 2013. She was a lady full of life, with a great sense of humor. Nancy retired from General Electric and volunteered at Memorial Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, and is survived by her children, Patsy Christian of King William, Tom (Carol) Corker of Bracey, Va. and Wayne (Zoe) Corker of King William; grandchildren, David (Alyx) Christian, Michael (Gina) Christian, Shawn Corker, Dawn (Mike) Moore, Matthew (Jordan) Corker, Jonathan (Jade) Corker; and 11 great-grandchildren. Her family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to her caregiver, Alric Service. Granny enjoyed traveling, shopping and eating out, but her family was the center of her life. She was loved and will be missed. The family received friends Friday, June 14, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, where services were held Saturday. Mary Frances Carneal Longest, born June 1, 1921, passed away June 10, 2013, at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, John A. Longest; her great-grandson, John Kelly Tate; and her brother, Walter Edward Carneal. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Joan Tate of Richmond; and beloved son, John David Longest (Barbara) of Newtown, Va.; grandchildren, Christopher Tate and Casey Longest of Richmond, and John Daniel Longest of Raleigh, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Stephen and Claire Tate and Noah Woolard. Mrs. Longest attended Smith Deal Massey Business School in Richmond, and later managed the office for her husband, John A. Longest, in his upholstery and glass business. She was a devoted member of Upper King & Queen Baptist Church, where she served in several positions. She cherished her friends there and in the surrounding community. She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star at ACCA Temple. At the age of 86, she moved to Covenant Woods and enjoyed many new friends. The family received friends Thursday, June 13, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home. Services were held Friday, June 14, at Upper King & Queen Baptist Church. Doris “Doe” Ellen Mundie, 81, of Mechanicsville, died Sunday, June 16, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Ashby and Alice James Mundie, and was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church. Mrs. Mundie retired as a claims agent for Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Malva “Mal” L. Mundie; a son, Richard “Rick” Lee Mundie and wife, Vicki; grandson, Dillon Lee Mundie, all of Mechanicsville; sister, Betty Young of Jacksonville, Fla.; and brother, Floyd T. Mundie of Aylett, Va.; special niece, June Tomes; special friend, Sue Talley; and her beloved dog, Buttons; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family wants to thank Dr. Samuel Janey for his dedicated and professional medical care through the years and Bon Secours Hospice for all of their special care. Betty Dellinger Ryan, 82, of Goochland, passed away June 12, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Ryan; and is survived by her sons, Gene (Patricia) and Michael (Karen); four grandchildren, Patrick, Robert, Kristen and Katlyn; and two great-grandchildren, Winston and William. She will be missed by all. The family received friends Friday, June 14, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home. Nina Edwards Vandergrift, 65, of Montpelier, went home to be with the Lord June 14, 2012 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was preceded in death by Robert, her husband of 43 years. She is survived by three daughters, Darlene Gallion of Caroline, Lisa Woody (Tee) of Mangohick, and Amy Roberts (Jon) of Norfolk; and three grandchildren Heather, Emily and Koby. She is also survived by three sisters, Ruby Cauthorne of Caroline, Ann Cauthorne (William) of Ashland, and Helen Nicholson of Goochland; a devoted cousin, Laura Worsham and many other loving extended family members and friends. A humble Christian and homemaker; she will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. The family received friends Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, where funeral services were held Thursday. Interment followed at Dunn’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Montpelier.
