Great Harvest Bread Company to open Mechanicsville bakery
The lease has been signed for the new Great Harvest Bread Company bakery in Mechanicsville by local owner June Bergeron. The bakery will be located at 9369 Atlee Road, #3107, in the Rutland Commons Shopping Center. It is projected to open in September.
“We’re excited to bake and share fresh, healthy bread and sweets with our friends in the greater Richmond area,” says Bergeron. “We have combined our love of food and community to fulfill this exciting opportunity to own and operate a neighborhood bakery.”
Bergeron has played an active role in the kitchen since childhood when she would help her mother bake bread and sweets. She moved to Virginia in 2007 and has worked in the insurance industry for nearly three decades before deciding to make the switch to owning and operating her own bakery.
Great Harvest bakeries grind premium Montana wheat berries into whole-wheat flour daily to ensure freshness and flavor. It’s the fresh-ground flour that gives Great Harvest bread its rich taste, nutrients and density. The bread does not contain preservatives, additives or dough conditioners.
“Our goal is to create a fun and inviting atmosphere, and offer customers fresh, great tasting whole grain breads and sweets,” said Bergeron. “I will be working full time in the bakery with a team of great bakers and friends.”
Bakery menu items will include the signature Honey Whole Wheat crafted from only five simple ingredients: freshly ground whole wheat flour, honey, yeast, water, and salt; plus a variety of tasty loaves like Cinnamon Chip and High Five Fiber. Sweet treats will include Blueberry Oat Bran muffins and raspberry scones among others.
Originally founded in 1976 in Great Falls, Mont., Great Harvest has more than 200 bakeries located throughout the nation including Alaska and Hawaii. All bakeries are individually owned and operated, and no two are alike.
Great Harvest is known for handcrafted breads made with freshly ground whole wheat purchased from family-owned farms. The neighborhood bakeries create an array of legendary fresh-baked breads and sweets, as well as specialty items during the holidays. Great Harvest mills its whole wheat daily. The fresh flour is used within two days to guarantee the best taste and nutritional value.
