Mechanicsville man dies in single-vehicle crash near Hanover Courthouse
Hanover authorities have identified the man who died in single-vehicle crash Sunday.
In a statement released Monday morning, Lt. Chris Whitley, of the Hanover Sheriff’s Office, identified the deceased as Burnell C. Driggs Jr., 60, of Mechanicsville.
July 21, at approximately 5 p.m., the Hanover Sheriff’s Office responded to River Road near Hanover Courthouse Road for a report of a single-vehicle crash.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Driggs’s 1997 Chevrolet SUV was traveling west on River Road when it crossed into the eastbound lane, exited the roadway, and struck a tree head-on.
Driggs was transported to Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center by Hanover Fire-EMS where he was pronounced dead. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
