Obituaries, Week of July 25, 2013: Batson, Covington, Daugherty, Davis and Ingo
Wayne Batson, 69, of Richmond, passed away Friday, July 19, 2013. He is survived by his soulmate, Sherri Dyson; son, Joseph Shaun Batson and wife, Monique; and brother Kenneth Batson. Wayne was an easy-going, funny guy who loved hunting, fishing, and camping. He liked hanging out at Richmond East Moose Lodge #1947 with his buddies. The family received friends Tuesday, July 23, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, with memorial services. Sherri would like to thank all of Wayne’s doctors and staff for their care and kindness at the VCI and MCV Hanover, as well as all of the support and loving care from Trish, Bev, Leigh, and staff at Medi-Home Health and Hospice, and to special friends, Wayne Nunnally, Wayne Rounds and many more from Richmond East. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross or the Virginia Cancer Institute.
Mary E. Covington, 84, of Varina, formerly of Schuyler, Va., went to be with the Lord July 3, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Covington Sr. She is survived by her son, Robert Covington Jr.; daughter, Dale Hall; grandchildren, Blake and Brenna Covington and Jannett Rairigh; great-grandchildren, Tommy and Angela Rairigh; and her best friend, Judy Moore. She will be greatly missed by all. Graveside services were held Monday, July 8, 2013 at Washington Memorial Park.
Sherry Fay Daugherty, moved on to a better place July 16, 2013. She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Mike; three children, Jeff, Kevin and Magen; two grandchildren, Lucas and Logan. She enjoyed volunteering for the youth within her community, her arts and crafts and spending time relaxing by the water. Her life revolved around her family and loving friends. She is always loved and will forever be missed. The family received friends Friday, July 19, 2013 at Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home.
Nellie Johns Davis,99-1/2, of Mechanicsville, died Thursday, July 18, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo C. Davis, Jr.; and daughter, Margaret Davis Todd. She is survived by daughter Mary Lew Bergman and her husband, Ron; son-in-law, Bill Todd and his wife, Ann; five grandchildren, Ron Bergman, Jr., Joe Bergman, Elizabeth Jones, Richard Todd, and Peter Todd; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Harry Johns of Grafton, Va. And several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Davis was an active church member her entire life, including Larchmont Baptist Church and First Lutheran Church in Norfolk and most recently, Messiah Lutheran Church in Mechanicsville. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 28 at Messiah Lutheran Church. Interment will be held 1 p.m. Monday, July 29 in Spring Hill Cemetery, Lynchburg, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at Messiah Lutheran Church, 8154 Atlee Road, Mechanicsville VA 23111.
Iva Frances Ingo, 78, of Mechanicsville, entered into eternal rest July 17, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Wayne Ingo (Donna), William Ingo, Iva Morris (Richard), Ron Ingo (Paula); four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Janie Click and Linda Chenault. The family received friends Thursday, July 18, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home. Graveside services were held Friday, July 19, in Washington Memorial Park.
