Christine E. Ballard, 44, of Mechanicsville, passed away Aug. 3, 2013. She is survived by her father, Ebbin C. “Hank” Ballard Jr.; mother, Joyce H. Ballard; brothers, Brian L. Ballard and Ebbin C. Ballard III; a devoted and loving niece, Taylor N. Ballard; several uncles, aunts and cousins; and by her very special friend, Randy Burke. Christine was a longtime and devoted employee of Shoney’s of Richmond. She will be missed by her friends and co-workers. The family received friends Tuesday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, where services were held Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013. Interment Riverview Cemetery.

Gladys Pittman Beale, 89, passed away July 25, 2013 after a long illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Thomas Beale; parents, Ernest Waverly and Mabel Williams Pittman; six sisters and three brothers. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Beale Harris (Charles), Carol Beale Carter (A.T.); and son, Larry Thomas Beale (Deborah); grandsons, Larry Thomas Beale Jr. (Wendi), Adam Kyle Beale and Thomas Thurman Carter; and great-grandsons, Carson Alexander Beale and Caleb Thomas Beale. Memorial services were held Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Claud Windfield Carawan, Jr., of Mechanicsville, passed away July 27, 2013. He was born in Pamlico County, N.C., and has formerly lived in Cypress Glen, Greenville, N.C., Oriental, N.C. and Fairfax, Va. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Isobel Carawan; brother, Bruce Carawan; and sister, Helen Corpeno. He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Burnet and husband, Mark, Claudia Carawan and husband, Ed Hayes; stepson, James Hale; his partner, Sherry Bullock; and grandchildren, James Burnet, Ian Burnet and Veronica Hayes. He was a Citadel Alumnus. He retired LCDR Naval Reserve and served in the Navy during WWII. He retired from Civil Service as Naval Procurement Supervisor, and went to work for Science Applications Incorporated and Advanced Logistics Management as an engineer. He founded Big Vandemere Land, LLC. He was a Past Master of Masonic Lodge Hiram – Takoma in Washington, D.C., Scottish Rite, 32ø, New Bern, N.C., and Sudan Shriners, New Bern, N.C. He enjoyed gardening, forestry and genealogy. A memorial service will be held Aug. 23, at 2:30 p.m. at Covenant Woods, 7090 Covenant Woods Dr., Mechanicsville, VA 23111. Frank G. Castelvecchi, Jr., of Mechanicsville, passed July 29, 2013 at home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne R. Castelvecchi. He is survived by his six children and their spouses: his daughter, Anne Marie; and his sons, Frank III, John, Robert, Fred and David. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was a lifetime member of the Hanover County Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as chief of Company 6, the Henry Volunteer Fire Department. The family received friends Friday at B. W. White Funeral Home, Aylett. Services were held Saturday at Church of the Redeemer, Mechanicsville. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. James Kevin Castro, 49, of Mechanicsville, passed away July 20, 2013. He is survived by his mother, Lois H. Castro; and brother, Ricardo Castro. The family received friends Thursday, Aug. 1, at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, where services were held Friday. Interment Washington Memorial Park.

Alyssa Jane Doane, 14, of Mechanicsville, went to her Eternal Home to be with our Lord Monday, July 29, 2013. Left to cherish her memories are her parents, Christal and Dwayne Doane; sister, Shayna; brother, D.J.; maternal grandparents, Nancy “Nanny” Ross, Clay “PawPaw” and Debbie “Nanny B.B.” Helms; paternal grandparents, Debbie “Mimi” and Robert Bradshaw, Steve “Pop Pop” and Janice “JaJa” Doane; paternal great-grandparents, Red “Pop Pop” and Flo “Grandma” Crawford; aunts and uncles, Pam, Angie, Steven, Landon, Robbie, Nancy-Wren and Matt; as well as a host of devoted cousins, extended family and friends. Alyssa was an active member of Journey Christian Fellowship and formerly attended Broadus Memorial Baptist Church. Family received friends Wednesday, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home. A Celebration of her life was held Thursday at Broadus Memorial Baptist Church, Mechanicsville. Elmore Hall, 78, of Beaverdam, departed this life Aug. 5, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Vance Hall & Linnie Gordon Hall, and two brothers, William Vance (Bill) Hall Jr. and Alfred G (Bro) Hall. He is survived by his loving family, wife of 56 years, Mary Ann Trainham Hall; daughters Kimberly Ann Hall and Erika (Rickie) Hall Smith and her husband Ron; son Elmore Scott Hall and his children Lydia, Addie and E.J. Step grandson Ryan Smith, wife Erin and girls Talia and Marissa also survive. In laws Martha Hall and Betty Hall and Stewart C. Trainham and wife Katherine, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews survive him. He was a lifelong member of Zion Christian Church and a proud resident of Beaverdam in Hanover County. He retired from Holly Farms/Tyson Foods. He was a devoted hunter and fisherman, an athlete and a lover of a good story or joke. He served as judge in fox hunting field trials both locally and nationally. He served his community as a Jaycee, a member of Hanover County Electoral Board and as member of the Beaverdam Ruritan Club. He served his country in the Army’s 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, N.C. The family received friends Wednesday, Aug. 7 at Zion Christian Church. Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 8 at Zion Christian Church. Interment in the Corker family cemetery. Vada B. “Mommaw” Robinson, 79, of Mechanicsville, passed away July 31, 2013. She was the daughter of Richard and Alta Kate Barnette; and was predeceased by her husband, Jimmy Robinson. She is survived by her sons, James (Terrie), David (Susan); and daughter, Jackie Kirby; six grandchildren, Beth (Todd), Allen (Jessica), Nick (Nicole), Jay, Krystle and Katie; and three, soon to be four, great-grandchildren. We will miss her sense of humor and the love she had for her family. The family received friends at Bennett Funeral Home in Mechanicsville Thursday, Aug. 1. Services were held at Bennett Funeral Home Friday, Aug. 2. Interment at Signal Hill Memorial Park immediately following the service.

Dorothy Tate Talley, 92, of Mechanicsville, widow of Garland A. Talley, entered into eternal rest Monday, Aug. 5, 2013. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Ann Talley Johnson and Margaret S. Tate; one brother-in-law, E. Leith Talley; also many loving family members and friends. Mrs. Talley retired from The Federal Reserve Bank and was a member of Fairmount United Methodist Church. The family received friends Thursday, Aug. 8, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, followed by funeral services. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. Helen P. Taylor, 92, of Mechanicsville, went to be with her Lord Friday Aug. 2, 2013. She is survived by her daughter, Yvonne T. Hollingsworth (Doug); two grandchildren, Heather and Sam; three sisters, Annie Grubbs, Doris Waller and Vivian Fritter; and extended family. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, Mechanicsville VA 23111.

Aileen Williams Trexler, 90, of Mechanicsville, heeded the Lord’s call to come live with Him in His House, Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, George Nelson Trexler; two children, Stephen David Trexler and his wife, Raquel Llahanes Trexler, and Donna Trexler Everett; six grandchildren, James Christopher, Suling and Matthew Trexler, Leslie Trexler Futrell and husband, Brad, Lauren Brooke and William David Everett. Mrs. Trexler was a charter member of Mechanicsville Church of Christ. The family received friends Wednesday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home. Graveside services were held Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Patty D. Willis, 79, of Montpelier, passed away Aug. 1, 2013. She is preceded in death by her husband, Virgil P. Willis, Jr. She is survived by her children, Dennis Long (Mary Jane), Debra Brickwedde (Larry), Virgil P. Willis III (Lori), and Dinah Foreman (Scott); nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and six sisters. She was retired from Tyson Foods and a member of Hopeful Baptist Church. She was a hard-working role model mom and well-known for her selfless, caring, and giving nature. The family received friends Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013 at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Ashland. A service will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2013 at Hopeful Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
