Bruce Ware Crowe, 80, of Mechanicsville, died peacefully Aug. 9, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Lillian Crowe; and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sally; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Cy Witherow; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Lisa Crowe; his grandchildren, Austin, Jordan, Brittany, Jaffray and Nick; his sister and brothers, Margaret, Harvey and Clayton; and many nieces and nephews. Bruce was a longtime member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Mechanicsville. Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 12, at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, Mechanicsville. Interment Signal Hill Cemetery. The family received friends Sunday, Aug. 11, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
Rita Jean “Jeannie” Dinsmore, 53, of Ashland, born Feb. 6, 1960, passed away Aug. 8, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Nancy Dinsmore. She is survived by her brothers, Wayne and Donny; sisters, Lois, Cheryl, Terry, and her twin June and Kim; special nephews, Allen and Jeff; many other nieces and nephews; loving friend and caregiver, Carole Donovan; friend, Allen (Gator) Davis; brother-in-laws, Buster, Tony, Mack; sister-in-law, Freda; and many friends at Ashland Moose Lodge where she worked for about 22 years. The family received friends Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013; services followed at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Interment in Woodland cemetery.
Harriet Campbell Little,born May 2, 1923 in Westhampton, Va., died late Aug. 7, 2013. She was a resident of Hanover County. She was predeceased by her parents, Leslie D. Campbell, Sr. and Norine Dickson Campbell. She is survived by three sons, Parker L., Hugh B., and George Little; three brothers, Leslie, George, and Hugh Campbell; also three grandchildren. Mrs. Little was a devoted employee and docent of Scotchtown. Graveside services will be private.
Doris Rose Morrison, 89, of Mechanicsville, went to be with the Lord Aug. 12, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ira Ottis Morrison and Joseph Kenneth Talley; three brothers, Henry, George and Lemmie; two sisters, Estelle and Marjorie. She is survived by her son, Dr. Wayne Kenneth Talley (Dee); grandchildren, Heather Wynn Perkins (Ian), Joseph Talley (Tanya), Jason Talley (Megan); five great-grandchildren, Luke and London Perkins, Emily and Anna Talley and Truman Talley. Doris was a kind, loving and generous person to everyone. We will forever cherish our wonderful memories of her. Doris was a longtime member of Enon United Methodist Church; she retired after 42 years at The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. The family received friends Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Road, where services will be held Thursday, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. Harry F. II “Butch” Zahn, 86, of Hanover County, died Aug. 3, 2013. He is survived by his three children, Linda P. Zahn of Richmond, Harry F. Zahn IV “Freddie” of Hanover and Timothy L. Zahn of Henrico; two sisters, Virginia Brent of Quinton and Margie Conant of Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren, Lauren Renee Zahn, Jonathan Kristofer Stephenson, Megan Lacy Stephenson, Christina Renee Zahn and Casey Lee Zahn; and one great-grandaughter, Alyssa Durgin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois West Zahn; his parents, Charles and Emma Zahn; one sister, Annie Belle Czech; and two brothers, Charles and Willie Zahn. He retired as Business Manager from Local Union 666 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and was in his 65th year of membership in Local 666 IBEW. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 59 years. A Masonic memorial service was held Tuesday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, where the family received friends Wednesday, Aug. 7, and where services were held Thursday, Aug. 8. Interment followed at Signal Hill Memorial Park.
