Dr. Glenn Allen Anderson, Sr., 67, of Mechanicsville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family Aug. 13, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Anderson; and brother, Bobby Anderson. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Anne Anderson; children, Glenn Anderson Jr. and his wife, Paige, Amy Smith, Mark Anderson and Julie Tebbenkamp and her husband, Justin; grandchildren, Justin and Amanda Anderson, Morgan and Madison Smith and Gracie and Jackson Tebbenkamp; brothers, John Anderson, Wayne Anderson and Len Anderson; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. The family received friends Thursday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, where services were held Friday. Interment to follow at a later date in the Virginia Tech Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Dr. Anderson may be made to the Virginia FFA Foundation, 175 West Campus Drive, Litton Reaves Hall Room 1660, Blacksburg, VA 24061.
Olive Catherine “Kitty” Dale, 90, of Mechanicsville, passed away Aug. 14, 2013, with her family by her side. Kitty was born Jan. 10, 1923 to Brookie and Daisy Gray. She worked for Continental Insurance for 30 years and after retirement she served her community as a Certified Nurses Assistant (CNA), Special Needs School bus assistant and Avon representative. Kitty enjoyed being with her family and friends, collecting her dolls, playing with her dog “Missy,” cooking for the holidays, planting her tulips, and occasionally a dance or two. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and a brother, one granddaughter; one daughter, Diane Parsley; and one son, Thomas Greenwood; and her husband, Teddie Dale. She is survived by two sons, Sammy (Judy) and OC (Carolyn) Greenwood; and two daughters, Brenda (Ken) Owen and Shirley McDermott. She is further survived by 17 grandchildren, 31 great- grandchildren, 12 great- great-grandchildren and one sister. The family received friends Friday, Aug. 16 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, where services were held Saturday, Aug. 17. Interment Gethsemane Church of Christ Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.
Ella C. Davis, 87, passed away Aug. 16, 2013. She is survived by her son, Carroll Thornton and his wife Anita; two grandchildren, Lindsay Angel (David) and Dusty Thornton (Seana); three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Dusty, Jr., and Lily Thornton. Ella was a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, Nannie and Great-Nannie. The family would like to thank Ashland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Bon Secours Hospice for all their love and care of Ella. Graveside services were held at Signal Hill Memorial Park, 12360 Hanover Courthouse Road, Hanover Monday, Aug. 19, 2013.
