The current exhibit at the Montpelier Center for Arts & Education is “Quilts in the Village” by the members of Country School Quilters. The exhibit, of over 50 quilted items made by 18 members, will be on display through Sept. 29. The exhibit gallery is open Monday – Thursday 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The Center is located at 17205 Mountain Road (Route 33) in the village of Montpelier in western Hanover County.
The exhibit includes traditional and art quilts. Also included in the exhibit are some lap quilts, which will be donated to the veterans at McGuire Medical Center, and challenge quilts, which members made using two challenge fabrics in addition to fabrics from the member’s collection.
Country School Quilters come together to enjoy, share and preserve the art of quilting.
The monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday at the Hanover Parks & Recreation Building in Montpelier. The meeting begins at 7 p.m., which includes a business meeting, guest recognition, a program and show and tell.
The group has a Sit and Sew event held on the second Friday and Saturday of each month. This is a time for individuals to come together to work on projects. For more information about the group, visit countryschoolquilters.blogspot.com.
In January 2013, Channel 12 TV recognized the group with an Act of Kindness for the charitable donations to the various hospitals, Virginia Quilt Museum, Quilt Bingo/Relay for Life and several other charitable organizations.
