Ruth Benton Sikkelee Dvorak, of Dalton, Ga., formerly of Mechanicsville, passed away Sept. 10, 2013 at The Lighthouse Personal Care Home in Dalton, where she had resided for the past year. The family received friends Friday, Sept. 13, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, where services were held Saturday, Sept. 14. Rev. Joe Holland officiated. Burial followed in Westhampton Memorial Park. Ruth requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Broadus Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, 5351 Pole Green Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23116.
James Richard Getz, Sr., 88, of Mechanicsville, passed away Sept. 13, 2013. Another great veteran has passed. May he rest in peace. A spectacular husband, father and grandfather, you will always live in our hearts. He was preceded in death by his parents, James P. and Ida T. Getz; sister, Frances Gonsalves. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Margaret Getz; sons, Jim Jr. (Angela), Doug (Pam), and Steve; seven grandchildren, Daniel, Samantha, Mason, Ryan, Steven, Allison and Sawyer; brothers, Donald (Nellie), Martin (Virginia); sister, Joanne Darlington (Buddy); and numerous nieces and nephews. Jimmy faithfully served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Manileno during WWII. He was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church. He was active in Mechanicsville Little League baseball and football. The family received friends Monday, Sept. 16 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Shady Grove United Methodist Church. Interment church cemetery.
Agnes B. Seitz, 79, of Glen Allen, widow of David H. Seitz, passed away Sept. 2, 2013. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara S. Breeden; two sons, George H. Seitz and Troy D. Seitz; two grandchildren, Jessica L. and Aaron G. Seitz; three sisters, Elsie Boone, Leona Harlow and Martha Ann Herbert; two brothers, Leo Hartmann and Phillip Hartmann. She was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Hartmann. Agnes retired from Lawyers Title Insurance Company after 25 years of service. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Funeral Services were held Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Reid Chapel, Ashland, where the family received friends one hour prior to services. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
Frances Stebbins Shelton passed away Sept. 15, 2013. She was born in Ashland, to the late Ilus Hutcheson Stebbins and Charles Stebbins June 24, 1924. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank A. Shelton, to whom she was married at Ashland Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Ashland, June 14, 1952. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Jack Stebbins Shelton and Deborah Kay Shelton, Frances Ann Shelton Vaughan and Gregory Ward Vaughan and Richard Hutcheson Shelton and Terri Hylton Shelton. Survivors also include her two grandchildren, Lorraine Frances Shelton and her husband, Matthew Emil Cameron, and Anne Finley Vaughan. Frances was an associate member of the Ashland Garden Club and the Garden Club of Virginia. She was a lifelong member of the Ashland Christian Church and was the organist there for 30 years. She also gave piano lessons to many in Ashland and the surrounding area. Frances graduated from Henry Clay High School in Ashland and Mary Washington College, in Fredericksburg. The family received friends Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013 at Ashland Christian Church. Service and burial was held Wednesday, Sept. 18 at Ashland Christian Church. Interment in Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ashland Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 301 South James Street, Ashland, VA 23005.
Giles R. “Pop” Williams, 70, of Hanover, passed away Friday, Sept. 13, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry M. and Sarach Clark Williams; and brother, Ralph Williams. He is survived by his companion, Margaret Edwards; her children, Minnie Lopez and Steve Edwards; his brother, James Clarence Williams; his sisters, Jean Allison, Mary Corley and Maxine Grimes; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. “Pop” was a hard working mechanic for most of his life. The family received friends Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Ashland, where funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 17. Interment at Woodland Cemetery.
