A Mechanicsville grocery store is closed following a fire earlier today.

According to Hanover Fire-EMS Battalion Chief Jason Williams, crews responded at around 9:30 a.m. Nov. 19 for a report of smoke in the building at the Martin’s grocery store located in the Hanover Square Shopping Center off of Bell Creek Road.

Williams said that Hanover Fire-EMS personnel encountered smoke throughout the building and fire in the ceiling of the bakery area.  He added it took three engine companies, two ladder trucks, one ambulance, and a battalion chief, about 45 minutes to bring the situation under control.

All occupants evacuated the building safely and no one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The store has reopened.
