Mechanicsville man charged with first degree murder
Keith Wood is being held without bond, charged with first degree murder.
A Mechanicsville man is in custody following a suspected Christmas Day slaying at his Peaks Road home.
Keith M. Wood, 53, of the 8000 block of Peaks Road in Mechanicsville, has been charged with first degree murder and is being held without bond at Pamunkey Regional Jail, according to a statement released by Lt. Chris Whitley, of the Hanover Sheriff’s Office. No other suspects are being sought in connection to this case.
Dec. 25, at approximately 8 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office responded to Wood’s residence for a report of a person that was unresponsive. Upon arrival, deputies found the victim, George A. Teal, 49, of the 8400 block of Lincoln Road in Mechanicsville, lying on the floor suffering from apparent trauma.
Teal was transported by Hanover Fire-EMS to Memorial Regional Medical Center with serious life-threatening injuries. Teal was then transferred to VCU Medical Center where he died as a result of his injuries.
Investigators continue to evaluate all evidence in this case and are working closely with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
