Patrick Henry High School has a new football coach.

Principal Wanda Bibb announced today that the Hanover School Board has appointed Bryan Davis as head football coach of the Patrick Henry gridiron. “We wanted someone who would be a good fit for our boys and would help us elevate PH football,” Bibb said. “We think we found that person in Bryan Davis.”Davis will come to Hanover County from North Carolina.  He has many years of association with football, as well as deep roots in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  He graduated from Ferrum College in 1997 with a degree in Liberal Studies. His father, Dave Davis, coached football at Ferrum for many decades.  As a result, Bryan Davis grew up on the Ferrum sidelines.

Davis spent six years as head football coach at Topsail High School where he built the program to a 40-30 overall record.  During Coach Davis’s last year at Topsail, the team finished third in the East Central Conference.  Davis and his family have relatives within driving distance of Ashland.

Davis currently is under teaching contract with Jacksonville High in North Carolina. His obligations at PH will not formally begin until Aug. 1.  However, Bibb said the school is planning a “meet and greet” event where students, parents, and staff members can chat with Davis.  Other events are in the works, Bibb said, and more information will be forthcoming.
