Investigators identify man found dead behind motorcycle dealer

Authorities have identified the man discovered dead behind a Hanover-based motorcycle dealership Wednesday morning though the investigation into how he wound up there continues.



Friday afternoon, the Hanover Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased as Mark P. Burns, 55, of West Fillmore Street in Petersburg. Investigators continue to work closely with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office (OCME) to determine the official cause and manner of death.

Investigators are seeking the public’s help with any information in connection to Burns or the circumstances surrounding his death.

Burns was last seen on the morning of Monday, April 14, in Petersburg.  He was found dead behind the Richmond Harley-Davidson dealership, located in the 10400 block of Washington Highway, in Hanover County on the morning of Wednesday, April 16. A store employee and former law enforcement official discovered Burns’ body.

Both Crime Stoppers methods are anonymous.
