Broadnax man killed in milk truck crash near Beaverdam
A portion of Verdon Road near Beaverdam was shut down as crews investigated a fatal crash that killed the driver and sole occupant of a fully loaded milk truck.
Monday at approximately noon, the Hanover Sheriff’s Office responded to the 13500 block of Verdon Road for a report of a single-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer. The driver, who Hanover Sheriff’s Office identified Tuesday morning as James H. McAden, III, 64, of Brodnax, died at the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 1999 Kenworth tractor-trailer was traveling east on Verdon when it entered into a curve, crossed the center line, and ran off the left side of the roadway. It then struck an embankment and overturned on the left side, which entrapped the driver. The truck was hauling a full load of milk.
Verdon Road was initially closed between Hewlett Road and New Market Mill Road as deputies continued to investigate the crash and crews worked to remove the vehicle and other debris from the roadway. The road reopened at approximately 5 p.m. Monday.
