at the 2014 USA Swimming Eastern Zone  Long Course Championships this past weekend at the Collegiate School Aquatics Center (CSAC) in Chesterfield.

Virginia scored 871 points, behind Metropolitan Swimming of New York (979), and champion Potomac Valley (1,263).

Baker and Townsend won back-to-back individual titles to open the Friday night session, Baker the Girls 13-14 100 Backstroke in 1:05.70, followed by Townsend in the same race for boys in 1:00.73.

Baker did not think it too difficult that she was competing in a high level, high intensity meet for the second straight weekend, coming off the GRAL Champs meet just a few days earlier.

“Recovery is a big thing,” Baker explained after the win. “Eating the right foods and that kind of stuff. Then it’s all about doing your best.”

Baker qualified third for the final, besting her qualifying time by .20. She smashed it in the final by 2.32 seconds. It was the mirror image of her finish in the 200 Backstroke, qualifying first in 2:24.27, but her 2:22.91 time in the final was only good for third place.
