Trial date set for involuntary manslaughter suspect

A December trial date has been set for the man accused of striking and killing a jogger with his Toyota SUV in January while under the influence of alcohol.

Michael Carlson will face a single felony charge of involuntary manslaughter when he returns to Hanover Circuit Court Dec. 8 and 9 for what will be a two-day jury trial, according to court records.

If he is found guilty of the class 5 felony, Carlson faces the possibility of a maximum 10 years in prison and a $2,500 fine, according to Virginia Code.
