Ashland Police issue traffic advisory due to rail replacement

The Ashland Police Department has issued a traffic advisory for the town related to upcoming rail improvements.

CSX expects to begin work this week replacing a set of tracks running through Ashland.

In preparation for replacing the rails on one set of the double tracks traversing the Town of Ashland, CSX notified Ashland officials on Jan. 24 that they would be laying out quarter-mile sections of track starting Monday, Jan, 28. This work will close various rail crossings in town for up to an hour at a time, to include the England Street crossing.

As this work is contingent on many variables, CSX was unable to provide the town with a set schedule for this work. Although this work was scheduled to begin on Monday, unforeseen delays may push these efforts to later in the week.

Lt. James Shelhorse, of the APD, said in an effort to keep citizens and businesses informed, his department will continue to share information with the media and the public directly via social media resources.

Based on the evolving information they have received, Shelhorse said the APD is not asking motorists to prepare alternate routes, but simply be aware that this work may be taking place this week.

Members of the Ashland Police Department and the Ashland Public Works crews are preparing to deploy as soon as this work commences to minimize any impact on the motoring public and our downtown businesses.

“As motorists come into town next week, we simply urge them to drive with caution and please be aware that detours may be in place,” Shelhorse said.

Please view the Town’s website and social media feeds for updated information as it is received from CSX.
