Brown

James D. Brown, 67, of Ruther Glen, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Brenda L. Brown; a daughter, Donna Joyce; two sons, Travis Brown (Kathryn) and Kevin J. Brown; two brothers, Paul Brown (Barbara) and Lewis Hopkins (Sue); two sisters, Lois Young (Don) and Marie Mitchell; only one grandchild, Daniel Joyce (Theresa); and many nieces and nephews that were very special.  Services are private.

Dunaway

Lois M. Gunn Dowdy Dunaway, 96, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, Williard J. and Mattie Crowder Gunn; her husband, Otho P. Dunaway Sr.; and her granddaughter, Joyce Elizabeth Stewart. Surviving are her children, Lois D. Smith of Broken Arrow, Okla., Charlotte Dowdy-Rhoad (Stan) of Winterville, N.C., Ruth D. “Betty” Stewart of Mechanicsville and Wilma D. Garnett of Pahrump, Nevada; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, James Gunn (Tina) of Chesterfield. Graveside services were held Thursday morning, Feb. 21, 2013 at Signal Hill Memorial Park.

Fields

Jack D. Fields, 80, of Mechanicsville, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Lula Fields. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Fields; three daughters, Rhonda Fields of Lebanon, Va., Brenda Apple of Richmond, and Connie Gaulding of New Kent, Va.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother, Joe L. Fields; and four sisters, Lillian Jessee, Beatrice Puckett, Brenda Fuller and Tammy Gibson, all of Lebanon, Va. Jack was a retired employee of Reynolds Metals Company and IAM Local No. 10 and a member of Woodland Heights Masonic Lodge No. 345 AF&AM. He attended Anchor Baptist Church in Mechanicsville. The family received friends Sunday, Feb. 17, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, where services were held Monday, Feb. 18. Entombment Signal Hill Memorial Park.

Garner

Martha Elizabeth Garner, 87, of Montpelier, formally of Durham and Reidsville, N.C., passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2013. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Robert E. Garner; three sons, Randall (Linda), Barry (Laura) and Darryl (Nancy) Garner; a daughter, Janet Smith (Gary); four sisters, Mary, Thelma, Laura and Linda; one brother, John; also, six grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Mrs. Garner was employed at General Telephone and American Tobacco Co. in Durham, N.C. The family received friends Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Ashland, where services were held Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013. Interment private in North Carolina.

Jones

Jerry L. Jones, 62, of Aylett, passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013. He was the son of the late Julian W. and Alma F. Jones, of Fredericksburg. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Doris; son, Aaron; grandchildren, Reagan, Kathryn, Luke, and Brittany; sister, Martha Burke (Bob); numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members. The family received friends Sunday, Feb. 17 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, where services were held Monday, Feb. 18. Norris

Dorothy June Swayngim Norris, of Montpelier, was born Nov. 15, 1939 and passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013. She was the loving wife of Robert L. Norris, Sr. for 56 years.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Robert L. Norris, Jr. and wife Dana, Constance M. Norris, and Steven O. Norris; grandchildren, John and Ira Matyiko, Danielle and Tony Cuesta, Jessica and Zac Beares, Nicholas S. Norris, and Tabias W. Spencer; and great-grandson, James Lee Matyiko. Memorial services were held Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, 15599 Mountain Road, Montpelier, VA 23192. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter’s UMC.

Nuckols

Joseph Sherril Nuckols, Sr., 95, of Mechanicsville, departed this life Feb. 16, 2013, to join his loving wife, Minnie Tate Nuckols. He is survived by his sons, William Wayne Lauterbach and wife, Edna, and Joseph Sherril Nuckols Jr. and wife, Terry; grandchildren, Kim (Fred) Dye, Kay (Tim) Henry, Kristi (Gil) Seay, and Candice (Chip) McLean as well as 12 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; two devoted friends, Lynette Shahinian and Ana Spigle. Joe was a Pearl Harbor survivor, where he served in the 55th Coast Artillery, Battery F, until injured. He was the entertainment director of Pearl Harbor and hosted many USO shows, as a big band singer and master of ceremonies for visiting celebrities. Before the war, he served in the Richmond Blues, 129th Infantry Command A of the National Guard. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Richmond as a maintenance supervisor. He became known around town as Richmond’s “Foster Brooks” as he entertained for civic organizations and retirement homes with a comedy routine and singing songs from old standards to country and popular hits. He never accepted payment, but instead asked audiences to donate to children’s charities. He was a member of Shalom Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge Northside 292, Scottish Rite, ACCA Temple Shrine, Legion of Honor, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, WW Workman Tent of the Saints and Sinners of America, and the Richmond Moose Lodge. The family received friends at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, Mechanicsville Feb. 18, 2013 and where funeral services were held Feb. 19, 2013. Interment followed at Gethsemane Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his memory to Shalom Baptist Church, Mechanicsville, VA 23111 or a charity of your choice.

Regensburg

Ruby G. Regensburg, 82, of Mechanicsville, went home to be with the Lord Feb. 19, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otho Pernell “Rex.” She is survived by her sons, Kirk (Charlotte) and Chris (Melody); four grandchildren, Rex, Matthew, Amanda and Angela; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Alyssa; brothers, Paul and David; sisters, Agnes, Mildred, Ruth and Rachel; and a host of nieces and nephews; a niece, Lonna, who took loving care of her; a special thanks to the second floor staff at Lynmoore and the Medi-Hospice staff. The family received friends Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, where services will be held Friday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. Rucker

Neville Leon Rucker, 85, of Mechanicsville, embraced the arms of the Lord and joined his beloved wife, Rita, in eternity Feb. 18, 2013. He is survived by his daughters, Bobbye R. Terry of Lorenzo, Texas, and Tracy R. Foard of Ashland; and two grandchildren, Garreth and Rhiannon. The family received friends Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013. Interment followed in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Swift

Brenda Clark Swift, 66, of Beaverdam, went to be with the Lord after a long courageous battle with cancer Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013. She was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Kent Clark. She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years James W. Swift; her mother, Virginia B. Clark; two daughters, Cheryl Ann Sanders and her husband James Sanders, and Jennifer Clarke and her husband Charles E. Clarke; a beloved granddaughter, Emily Dale Clarke; a sister, Diane Wilmoth; and numerous relatives and friends. She was an employee of the Virginia DMV, where she was employed for 36 years. She was a member of Bethany Christian Church and a former member of Chapel Church of Christ. The family received friends Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Ashland, where a funeral service was held Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013. Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Louisa Va.

Walker

Ronald Clyde Walker, originally from Bradford, Pa., residing in Mechanicsville, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde William Walker and Genevieve Quick Walker. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Pamela Wilkinson Walker; two sons, Michael and wife, Jaime, and John; grandson, Jacob; mother-in-law, Kathleen Wilkinson; and many cousins. Mr. Walker was retired with 30 years of service with Verizon. He valiantly braved a long struggle with pancreatic cancer. Many thanks to the nurses and staff at Virginia Cancer Institute and Henrico Doctors’ Forest. Remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, where the family received friends Friday, Feb. 15, and where funeral services were held Saturday. Interment followed at Signal Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
