From the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office:
Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office and Hanover Fire Marshal’s Office continue their investigation into a residential fire that occurred earlier this morning in the 8200 block of Bultaco Trail in an attempt to determine the origin and cause.
At approximately 3 a.m. Feb. 21, Sheriff’s Office units were dispatched to the 8200 block of Bultaco Trail to assist Hanover Fire-EMS with a fire where several citizens were reportedly trapped inside the residence. Within minutes, deputies arrived on-scene, forced entry into the home, and rescued an 11-year-old boy, as well as a family dog.
Deputies re-entered the residence multiple times to ensure no one else was remaining, as well as to extinguish the fire. Fortunately, the three remaining occupants, a mother and her two children – an infant and a toddler – had already escaped while deputies were searching. Shortly afterwards, Hanover Fire-EMS arrived on-scene and were able to extinguish the fire.
All three children were transported to VCU Medical Center. Four Sheriff’s Office deputies were treated for smoke inhalation at Memorial Regional Medical Center. The deputies have since been released and are in good condition.
