Yellow Jackets win home opener in Ashland

After falling 42-3 in their season opener in Baltimore to Johns Hopkins, the Yellow Jackets sought not just more offense and better defense, they sought purpose and a return to their identity. Even though the scoreboard read Randolph-Macon 48, Averett 16 at game’s end, they left the stadium with questions still unanswered.

    Friday night in Ashland, it was Patrick Henry who was clearly outmatched, by size, speed, and talent, as the Raiders, now the county favorite to make a deep postseason run, won going away 56-0.

    Brooks Coombs rushed 27 times for 157 yards and three touchdowns as the Hanover Hawks moved to 2-0 Friday night with a 45-13 win at J.R. Tucker. Quarterback Clayton Cheatham was six-of-nine passing for 69 yards.
