The terms are all too familiar to any athletic team: “Inches away,” “seconds from,” “gutsy effort,” “moral victory.” Although each of them describe the play of Patrick Henry boys soccer at home last Thursday against nationally-ranked Mills Godwin, in the end, the record book will show a 2-1 overtime loss.

    Hanover High’s Kara Kane drives toward the Glen Allen goal as a Jaguar defender closes in during the Hawks’ decisive 15-10, overtime win Friday.

    After having lost to Glen Allen on their home field just a week earlier 16-10, the Hanover Hawks girls lacrosse team hit I-295 Friday afternoon, not as much to exact revenge as to seize redemption. In a game of runs, Hanover made the run that mattered the most, scoring all five overtime goals to get a victory at Glen Allen, 15-10. Having played the Jaguars just a week earlier helped the Hawks prepare for round two.

    Patrick Henry gymnastics standout Kristen Valasek is gearing up for an appearance in the National High School Gymnastics Association Senior Showcase Invitational.

    As she enjoys some of her final high school spring break this week, Kristen Valasek has a lot to look forward to. She has seven weeks left as a student at Patrick Henry, the prom, and, of course, graduation. But there’s one other entry on her calendar completely unique to her.
