    Ashland Street Parties opens its 2014 season May 17 by bringing to town two of Metro Richmond’s premier entertainers – Steve Bassett and Robbin Thompson for “Spring into Summer,” presented by Hometown Realty Services.   • Lee-Davis hosts 40th arts, sciences festival

    Hanover County Public Schools will present the 40th annual Festival of the Arts and Sciences Saturday, April 26 at Lee-Davis High School. The community is invited to see performances and curriculum exhibits including music, theater, fine arts, and physical education as well as individual school exhibits including language arts, math, science, social studies, and career and technical education. The opening ceremony will be held in the auditorium at 10 a.m.

  • Tomato Un-Cookoff set for July 11

    Hanover County Parks and Recreation will host the Tomato Un-Cookoff Friday, July 11. Competitors will un-cookoff head to head to transform the famous Hanover Tomato into tantalizing tomato recipes. All underground chefs (supper club, private/caterer, and competition chefs) and above ground chefs are welcome to compete. Suggestions for dishes could include: salsa, bruschetta, tabbouleh, caprese salad, tomato sauces or perhaps a delicious stuffed tomato. The tomato cuisine lineups are endless.

    The 2014 Ashland Chalk Walk will take place Saturday, May 3 in the Plaza in front of the Ashland Library. The event is the fifth annual Sidewalk “Chalk Art” event hosted by the Ashland Main Street Association with many Ashland businesses and individuals assisting through their generous sponsorships.   • Ashland Library hosts popular book sale

    The Friends of the Ashland Library will host its Spring Book Sale Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale will be held at the Richard S. Gillis, Jr., Ashland Branch Library, 201 S. Railroad Avenue in Ashland. More than 1,000 donated books will be available for purchase. Hardbacks sell for $1 and paperbacks for 50 cents. Children’s books are 25 cents each or five for $1.
