      Dual Recovery Anonymous meets Thursdays at the Thomas Hale Education Center at Sunrise House.

      Dual Recovery Anonymous is for those seeking relief from an emotional or mental disorder & a co-occurring substance abuse problem.

      The group is peer run, meaning that it is run by people with a mental illness and substance abuse history.

      This excellent group supports people with both mental illness and substance abuse history. Please join us for fellowship in the 12-step tradition. There are no fees, registration forms or advanced notice necessary!

      Homeschool Jr./Sr. Prom Fundraiser

      The homeschool Junior class is holding a fundraising yard sale on Saturday, March 21 to help raise money for the FIRST Junior/Senior Homeschool Prom!!! We have had many different categories of items donated to help make this event happen. Appliances, furniture, ladies clothing, jewelry, a piano, large dog crate and more!! There will also be a baked goods sale going on as well, so come ready as everything will be homemade from chocolate truffles to whole cheesecakes.

       

      RAIN DATE will be Saturday, March 28th.

       

      Starts at 7:30am until 12:30pm.

    2. Gregory Smith’s Orchestra Games

      Not just another “get to know your instruments” concert, The Orchestra Games explores the personalities of various instruments as it sprints through an Olympic array of events. This concert is guaranteed fun for kids of all ages! The performance includes a pre-concert festival with a musical instrument petting zoo and other activities for young audiences. Pre-concert festivals take place in Rhythm Hall one hour prior to concert.

    5. TEENS ONLY – Free Mental Health Awareness Q & A and Ribbon Making Event
      6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

      Peer counselor, mental health patient and advocate Andi Chrisman will be taking questions and sharing her knowledge and experience to help people better understand mental illness. She relates well to the teen crowd as her mental health problems started at 13. Andi also has purple hair! This groups is for TEENS ONLY. No adults other than Andi Chrisman and library staff will be the only adults permitted to enter the room. While we talk, we’ll be creating lime green mental health awareness ribbon lapel pins. No crafting ability required! The ribbons will be part of a mental health awareness packet handed out at local events and online. You will also keep some to share with pride! I will show a sample packet during the group. Comments and suggestions are welcomed! You will leave with some awareness pins, knowledge, print-outs including great links for more information, and contact if you need Andi to help with peer counseling. SUPPLIES TO BRING: – Your own pair of scissors FULL SUPPLY LIST: CAN’T ATTEND BUT WANT TO HELP? If you have any of these items to donate for the event, please message Andi Chrisman with what you can lend. – E6000 Glue – 2” or 3” Flat back safety pins – ⅜” wide lime green ribbon – Lime green wasabi tape – Approximately 4” x 6” sized paper bags in neutral colors or lime green.

    6. Jill’s Blankets Presents Glitter & Glue: An Evening with Kelly Corrigan
      7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

      Enjoy an evening with New York Times best-selling author Kelly Corrigan on Saturday, March 21 at 7 pm including a lively author presentation, Q&A, cookies and coffee reception, and book signing. A paperback copy of Corrigan’s latest book Glitter and Glue is included in the $30 ticket sale. Corrigan, a Pennsylvania native and University of Richmond alumni, examines the bond—sometimes nourishing, sometimes exasperating, occasionally divine—between mothers and daughters in Glitter and Glue.

      The event is a fundraiser for the Richmond nonprofit Jill’s Blankets. Location: Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, Kelly Education Center – Auditorium, 1800 Lakeside Avenue, Richmond, VA 23228.       Jill’s Blanket’s is a nonprofit that makes handmade polar fleece blankets. Their mission is is to love and care for those undergoing chemotherapy treatment by making and delivering polar fleece blankets to as many people as possible.
