    1. 2nd Annual Team-Up on Cancer
      5:30 pm – 8:00 pm

      Wine for Cures, a 501(c3) charity that raises money for cancer research, is partnering with the Virginia Cancer Institute to host the 2nd Annual Team-Up on Cancer Event to be held on September 25, starting at 5:30. You will enjoy wines, hors d’oeuvres, fruit, cheese trays and a silent auction. The location is the VCI Hanover Office at 7501 Right Flank Road in Mechanicsville. There is a $20 donation and tickets may be purchased at the VCI Hanover office or online at: www.WineForCures.org/Events. For questions or more information, call 804-559-2489 or 804-901-1200.

      Dual Recovery Anonymous meets Thursdays at the Thomas Hale Education Center at Sunrise House.

      Dual Recovery Anonymous is for those seeking relief from an emotional or mental disorder & a co-occurring substance abuse problem.

      The group is peer run, meaning that it is run by people with a mental illness and substance abuse history.

      This excellent group supports people with both mental illness and substance abuse history. Please join us for fellowship in the 12-step tradition. There are no fees, registration forms or advanced notice necessary!

    1. 63rd Annual Chickahominy Tribe Pow-Wow
      10:00 am – 5:00 pm

      The Chickahominy Indian Tribe will join Native American friends and visitors from all over the country when they gather on the Chickahominy Tribal Grounds in Charles City, 8200 Lott Cary Road, Providence Forge, VA 23140; September 27 & 28, 2014 for their 63rd annual Fall Festival and Pow-Wow. On this historic occasion, visitors will have an opportunity to experience Eastern Woodlands’ Indian culture with one of the Tribes that were here to make first contact with the English in 1607. Grounds will open at 10:00 a.m. on both days, with the Saturday, September 27th Grand Entry at 12:00 noon and Sunday, September 28th Grand Entry at 1:00 p.m. The festival/Pow-Wow will feature Native American dancers, drummers, singers and cultural demonstrations. United States Armed Forces’ Veterans will be honored daily. The attending public will enjoy a number of cultural and traditional exhibits including historic displays and information from the Chickahominy Indian Tribe. Native American crafters from all over the United States will have jewelry, pottery, beadwork, leather crafts, and other authentic arts and crafts for sale. Food will be available and will feature Indian Fry Bread, fish & chips, hamburgers and hot dogs, and more, as well as plenty of beverages and a bake sale. The festival is open to the public. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted at the gate. Plenty of free parking is available with golf cart transportation provided to the grounds. Organizers suggest bringing lawn chairs or blankets. Pow-Wow etiquette will be followed. For health and safety reasons, no alcohol, drugs nor pets are permitted on the Pow-Wow grounds.

    3. Classic Car Cruise-In
      4:00 pm – 7:00 pm

      Make the Scene as we take a step back in time to the Cruise In days, when the parking lot at Oak Knoll Middle School fill with beautiful classic automobiles (pre-1988) while the sounds of the 50′s, 60′s and 70′s play in the background. Food will be available for purchase at this free community event. Classic automobile owners: Make sure to claim ‘dibs’ on your space at the Cruise In. Door prize drawings and awards will be presented throughout the evening. An automobile registration form is recommended to be mailed in prior to the event to save your spot. You may register at the event, however spaces do fill up.
