I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and had time to reflect on all that we should be thankful for. Please mark your calendars for a few upcoming events taking place in our community!

This is always a big hit, a Community Yard Sale to be held at Zion Christian Church, Beaverdam, Saturday, June 6, from 8 a.m. to noon. Lots of goodies! Hope you can stop by to see what’s for sale.

AARP Smart Driver Course, June 29 and 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Hanover AARP Chapter 5335 will be hosting this event at the Hanover Arts and Activity Center, 500 S. Center Street, Ashland. When you take this course, you will learn defensive driving methods and safety strategies to help refresh your knowledge of the rules of the road. You will also learn how to deal with aggressive drivers, how to safely navigate adverse weather conditions, and expanded information on automobile technology. After completion, you may be eligible for a multi-year car insurance discount.

If you are an AARP member the cost will be $15. Non-member charge will be $20; pay as you come on the 29th. However a pre-registration would be nice; call (804) 798-1373 to save a seat for yourself and others that may wish to join you. On the first day of class, please bring your driver’s license and your AARP membership card (if you have one). Register by calling (804) 798-1373.

You are invited to participate in the third annual Shiloh United Methodist Church Golf Tournament, which will be held Saturday, May 30 at the Hollows Golf Course located in Montpelier. Registration is at noon; tee time begins at 1 p.m. Cost: $75 Shotgun Tee Off, Captains Choice, Mulligans. Fee includes 18 holes of golf with riding cart, trophies, door prizes, dinner, and refreshments. Make checks payable to Shiloh UMC with “Golf” in memo line and mail your registration to Shiloh United Methodist Church, 17420 Shiloh Church Road, Montpelier, VA 23192 or call (804) 449-6266 for more information. All participants must be at least 7 years of age.
