Farrington Ruritan Club is having a huge community yard sale Saturday, Sept. 20 from 7 a.m. to noon at 12300 Farrington Road, Ashland (Old Farrington Firehouse Building/BARK). To reserve a 12’x12’ spot for $15, call Mary Wingfield at (804) 687-9116 and set up at 6:30 a.m. and open at 7 a.m.

The Independence Ruritan Club will be having their semi-annual Brunswick Stew sale Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Ruritan Clubhouse located behind Independence Christian Church, 14023 Independence Road (off Route 54 west of Ashland). The stew will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a donation of only $7 a quart. Quantity is limited. To reserve yours in advance, call (804) 798-5171 or (804) 798-6579 by Thursday, Sept. 18. The proceeds from this activity will help provide several scholarships for the Class of 2015 at Patrick Henry High School. In conjunction with this stew sale the Disciples Women of Independence Church are having a bake sale. The ladies are great cooks and they sell out fast. Come early to get the best selection.

“Open Air Worship in the Bays” at Zion Christian Church (DOC) is having another worship service in the bays of the old Beaverdam firehouse (Zion Christian Center) Sunday, Sept. 21. Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. The dress is casual, the experience is spiritual, and the atmosphere is enjoyable as God is celebrated in the beauty of the outdoors as shared through the open bay doors. The Beaverdam Ruritans thank our local sponsors, the vendors and all those who came out to the second annual B’dam Brew JAM – a little rain early on didn’t dampen the spirits of the Brewitans. A great time was had at Ruritan Park. Mark your calendar for 2015 – second Saturday in September – and they will do it again!

Next week, Friday, Sept. 26 the Beaverdam Ruritans will host a Family Spaghetti Dinner and Bingo Night for kids of all ages. $10 adult and $5 for children to have dinner and play Bingo.
