The Hanover Community Center (HCC) is having a community yard sale Saturday, July 26. “Old Firehouse Concert Series” at Zion Christian Church (DOC) in Beaverdam is sponsoring the McTell Brothers in an open-air concert Saturday, Aug. 2 at 7 p.m. The brothers have been touring extensively throughout the area and have recently recorded an album. Bring a lawn chair and a picnic. Drinks and snacks will be available. $5 for adults; under age 18 is free. The Beaverdam Ruritan Club’s seventh annual National Night Out Against Crime is Tuesday, Aug. 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. It will be a great time to meet your neighbors and see old friends. Representatives from the Virginia State Police, the Hanover County Sheriff’s Department, local Fire and EMS, Law Enforcement Explorers Post 606, and McGruff “The Crime Dog” will be available. Free hot dogs, chips, watermelon and drinks will be served. There will be games for everyone including a water balloon toss, Bucket Brigade, and more. Other contests that will challenge include a donut eating contest and a pie-judging contest – bake your best pie and let us be the judge. The “Help Our Veterans Campaign” will be continued and donations accepted including cash, clothing, toiletries, gift cards, and snacks for the Local Vet Center and Richmond VA Hospital Patients. The current candidates for Honorary Mayor of Beaverdam will be available for you to meet. Please bring your family and join in the fun. We have a family-friendly and smoke-free building environment. VBS at Zion Christian Church. The community children are invited to Vacation Bible School at Zion Christian Church on Beaverdam School Road in downtown Beaverdam Monday, Aug. 4 – Wednesday, Aug. 6 from 9 a.m. to noon. The theme is “Son Rock Kids Camp” where kids build their lives on the rock: Jesus! Wednesday evening at 6 p.m., supper is provided for children and parents with a program beginning at 7 p.m. Children will participate in stories, songs, crafts, games as well as enjoy snacks. Amy Harris presents exhibition in honor of her “Best in Show” award in The Montpelier Center’s 2013 National Juried Exhibition through July 31. A professional painter, Amy was born and raised just outside Ashland. She is a Fine Arts graduate of Virginia Tech and her first show outside the Virginia Tech affiliated galleries of Blacksburg, Va. was the Discovering Hanover exhibit of Gallery Flux in Ashland in January 2012.
