As usual, there is plenty things happening, so here we go!
This weekend! Come on out and help support the WHCEASL (West Hanover Co-Ed Adult Softball League) Saturday, April 25, at Montpelier Park/Wickham Field at noon. There are some awesome prizes for the winners of the corn hole tournament and men’s and women’s derby. And, don’t forget, there’s a great assortment of prizes that will be given out throughout the day, different vendor tents, raffles and on-site concessions, too. This event is open to the public, and is a family-friendly event, so please invite all your friends and family; they’ll have great time.
Beaverdam Senior/Ambassador Girl Scout Troop 490 will be having a car wash at the Ashland Tractor Supply Store (on Junction Drive) Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (weather permitting). Come support the scouts as they raise money for local Western Hanover charities and a troop trip!
All-you-can-eat Spaghetti Dinner Saturday, May 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Doswell Community Center, 16433 N. Washington Highway. The menu includes bread, salad, dessert, coffee, iced tea, lemonade. Take-out plates will be available. Adults cost $9. Ages 5-12 cost $4.50. Proceeds benefit the Doswell Ruritan Club Scholarship Fund.
Farrington Ruritan Club is having their Famous BBQ Chicken Dinner at the Old Firehouse Building located at 12300 Farrington Road, Ashland Saturday, April 25 from noon until sold out. The Worthy Matron of Hanover Eastern Star will sponsor in conjunction with the Ashland movie theater, a dinner and a movie Saturday, April 25, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. They will be serving spaghetti, salad, bread, and a desert for $10. Saturday, May 16, at 7 p.m. the Hanover Concert Band (Karla Bloom, director) will present a special benefit concert. The evening includes the premiere of “Hanover Celebration,” commissioned by Marshall Johnson in honor of the 25th anniversary year of the band. There will be three original pieces by members of the Fairmount congregation in addition to music featuring instruments in five different sections of the band. It will be presented at the Fairmount Christian Church, 6502 Creighton Road in Mechanicsville, just off I-295. Admission will be to bring non-perishable food items to stock the shelves of the Mechanicsville Churches Emergency Fund (M.C.E.F.).
“The Company Store” (old-time string band with a little bit of humor) will be featured in an open air concert Saturday, May 2, at 7 p.m. at the Zion Christian Center in downtown Beaverdam. The cost is $5 for adults; under age 18 is free. Bring a lawn chair; refreshments will be available. This event is hosted by Zion Christian Church in the former Beaverdam firehouse at 16158 Beaverdam School Road next to the railroad tracks. A National Day of Prayer Celebration will be held Thursday, May 7, at 7 p.m. on the grounds of the Ashland Town Hall. It will be an evening of music, praise, and prayer. “4 the Lord” will be providing special music as will the Praise Band from the Master’s House. All are welcome, please bring a lawn chair.
