Community Hurricane Relief Fundraiser
Oct 13 @ 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

Come out and join us at Zion Christian Church (DOC) in the “Old Firehouse” for a Community Hurricane Relief Fundraiser for those affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. All money collected for the supper will go to help those affected by the hurricanes. There will be a “Baked Potato Supper” which will include a huge baked potato with all the fixin’s, tossed salad, drink and dessert for a suggested donation of $8 for adults.  A hot dog dinner will be available for children for $4. Salt Fish Breakfast

All you can eat Salt Fish Breakfast, hosted by Independence Ruritan Club on Saturday, October 14 from 6:45 to 8:45 a.m., to benefit Hanover Christmas Mother.  Breakfast includes: salt herring fillets, scrambled eggs, bacon, spiced apples, cornbread, grits, coffee and orange juice. Only $9 for adults. The Ruritan Club Community House is located behind Independence Christian Church, 14033 Independence Road (off Route 54, west of Ashland).  For more information call (804)798-6579.

ACES Yard Sale

ACES is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to helping individuals in the community with a food pantry, clothes closet and financial assistance for utilities and rent when necessary.   Our mission is supported by the generous donations from individuals, churches and businesses in the community and is staffed entirely by volunteers. We will be holding a yard sale, Saturday, October 14 from 8 – 1 p.m. at 507 Caroline Street in Ashland. Sale is of nonemergency items donated to our cause. There won’t be a crock pot, there might be a Keurig. There won’t be a toaster oven, there might be a snow cone maker.

Tour de Midnight Bike Ride

The Midnight Brewery made a significant donation for the second Tour de Midnight Bike Ride that The Epilepsy Foundation of Virginia will host on October 14. Owner Trae Cairns and his mother Gerrie are great supporters of the bike ride, which had 225 riders last year. The 100 Km. bike ride will begin at 9 a.m. and the 50 Km. bike ride will begin at 10 a.m. The purpose of the Tour de Midnight is to raise funds for the programs and services that the Epilepsy Foundation of Virginia provides in the Commonwealth of Virginia to promote awareness about epilepsy and provide assistance to the 80,000-100,000 Virginians who suffer the disorder. The Epilepsy Foundation of Virginia leads the fight to overcome the challenges of living with epilepsy and to accelerate therapies to stop seizures, find cures and save lives. free preparation of Wills

The Hanover Council on Aging is partnering with Senior Connections and Williams Mullen to provide free preparation of Wills, Powers of Attorney and Advanced Directives for persons over 55 or those with a disability. Individuals or couples must meet low income guidelines. Appointments are limited to 16 persons. All participants must complete and submit preliminary documents to Senior Connections in order for paperwork to be prepared prior to the event date on October 17. Participants will be notified of the exact appointment time and location (1 hour appointments will be scheduled from 1-3 p.m.) It will be held in the Mechanicsville area.
