Ms. Paige Abasolo and Mrs. Lisa Thompson of Kersey Creek Elementary School have been named the 2017 Elementary School Counselor and Elementary School Principal of the Year by the Virginia School Counseling Association (VSCA).

Ms. Abasolo was selected by the VSCA for demonstrating strong support of national school counseling standards, dedication to her students, and increasing collaboration efforts among fellow educators. Mrs. Thompson was selected by the VSCA for her support and recognition of a school counselor’s role in administering a comprehensive counseling program to meet the needs of all students.

“Promoting student success requires the efforts of the entire school community. I am very fortunate to be able to assist with supporting students as a school counselor at Kersey Creek Elementary School. Each day is an opportunity to meet the social, emotional, and academic needs of students so that they begin to acquire the tools to be lifelong problem solvers,” said Abasolo.

Ms. Lisa Thompson, principal, reflected, “I am honored to be recognized for this award by the VSCA.  Being part of a school that recognizes the importance of the whole child is what has allowed our school to rise to the level of being a nationally distinguished RAMP school.  With the guidance and support of our school counselor, Ms. Paige Abasolo, our children benefit from a school culture that embraces the importance of collaborating to ensure that every child is supported and put on a path that will grow them in all facets of their development.”
