A 113-room assisted living facility could be coming to the Mechanicsville area.

Aug. 21 the Hanover County Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval for the three-story facility, which would be called The Crossings at Hanover across from Memorial Regional Medical Center on Meadowbridge Road. Harmony Senior Services, a sister company of Smith/Packett, the developer, will operate and manage the facility.

Susan Eckert, president of Harmony Senior Services,  said the company runs six different facilities in Virginia. Currently they have five more under construction and another five that are in the “development” phase including the potential location in Hanover County.

“So, we will be tripling our growth very quickly,” she said.

The Hanover location would join four existing facilities in the Richmond area including one each in Chester and Midlothian and two in Richmond’s West End.

Eckert said if the proposal is approved, construction will begin during the first quarter of 2015 and they would expect the assisted living building to be open for business in 2016.

The Board of Supervisors will hear the proposal at its Sept. 24 meeting.
