With its Victorian houses, towering oaks and white picket fences, the neighborhood lining the Railroad tracks in Ashland offers a glimpse of a bygone era. That small-town nostalgia’s exactly what attracted a Richmond studio to film a commercial onsite last week.
Friday, film crews could be found on-scene on South Center Street filming a commercial for Brandermill Woods, a Midlothian-based retirement community.
Derek Machado, owner and creative director of Five19 Creative, said his southside Richmond-based agency had shot photographs for the print campaign at the same location.
“We just fell in love with the house; it’s just great. It’s got a ton of character, it fits the period that we’re trying to capture,” Machado said.
Specifically, Machado said he was looking for a location that harkened “back to a more genuine time,” which they will juxtapose with the modern day.
Crews shot inside and outside the Ashland home all day Friday.
“It was quite a production,” said homeowner Jen Chambers. “I was very thankful that my neighbors were so helpful in moving their cars to accommodate the 1950s-theme outdoor scenes.”
