A Mechanicsville man was injured following a small plane crash in Hanover County on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

Sgt. Keeli L. Hill with Virginia State Police said officers responded to reports of a small plane crash in a field at the intersection of River and Williamsville roads in Hanover.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the pilot, Merlin Wayne Myers, 77, of Mechanicsville, was forced to make an emergency landing due to mechanical issues with the engine of his ultralight kit plane.

“In the course of the landing, the plane sustained significant damage and rested upside down in a field,” Hill said.

Myers sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration was notified and responded to the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
