James “Rod” Deale, 73, passed away Friday, June 6, 2014. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter A. Deale; and brother, Arnold Deale. Rod owned Hanover Ford Tractor, where he enjoyed many hours of dedicated labor. During his leisure, he loved to go fishing and spend time with his family, mainly his beloved grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 36 years, Linda E. Deale; four daughters, Selina I. Deale, Michele Flint (Jim), Mary Frances Barker (Kraig) and Debra Combs (Mark); seven grandchildren, Bryce, Chance, Tanner, Lucy, Ryan, Sidney and Reese; his mother, Mary Alice Deale; siblings, Della Trivette, Ed Deale, Evelyn King, Margaret Perry, Linda Dmytryszyn, and Ellen Crisp; his constant companion, “Cocoa” and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation was held Sunday, June 8, with funeral services Monday, June 9, 2014 at Nelsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Rod will be laid to rest in Elon Baptist Church Cemetery. Madeline Mantlo Dixon, 93, of Mechanicsville, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, June 17, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Bernard F. Mantlo and Marvin E. Dixon. She is survived by her two daughters, Judy Mantlo and Carol Johnston (Bob); one son, Bernard “Bubba” Mantlo Jr. (Deborah); nine grandchildren, 10 great- grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and other extended family. After retiring as the Director of Thalhimer’s Beauty Salons, Madeline remained active most notably in her involvement with East Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad and Bon Secours Memorial Regional Hospital. The last five years of her life, she was a participant at Hanover Adult Center. The family received friends Wednesday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, where services were held Thursday morning, June 19, 2014. Interment Signal Hill Memorial Park. Phyllis Sherrod Farnsworth, joined her Heavenly Father June 15, 2014. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Charles Farnsworth; her dedicated sons, C.B. (Sherrie) and Mark (Kimberly) Farnsworth; and her adored grandsons, Chase, Austin, Cole and Adam; as well as her brother, Roland Sherrod; and her sister, Martha Porter. Phyllis will be greatly missed, but her genuine charm, wit and love will remain forever in our hearts. Graveside services were held Thursday, June 19, 2014 in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Simone Juliett Kennedy, 16, of Mechanicsville, went to be with the Lord June 11, 2014. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Rev. N.A. Kennedy and Erika Gardner; and is survived by her parents, Chris and Maureen Kennedy; siblings, Sabina, Joey and Chyenne; grandmother, Lillie Kennedy; as well as many loving family and friends. The family received friends Monday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home. Services were held Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Meadowood Church of God, Richmond. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.
James A. Nogle, Jr., 59, of Mechanicsville, passed from our hands to God’s June 11, 2014. He was preceded in death by his mother, Janice M. Nogle; and is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Donna W. Nogle; two children, Danielle M. Nogle and Christine N. Nogle; his cherished father, James A. Nogle Sr.; brother, Jay and wife, Gretchen, their children, Andrew, James, John and Natalie; as well as a large number of extended family and friends. An informal visitation was held Friday, June 13, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, where a celebration of James’ life was held Saturday, June 14, 2014. Richard E. O’Brien, of Mechanicsville, passed away June 14, 2014. He is preceded in death by his wife Judy. He is survived by his brother Gary O’Brien (Bonnie), brother-in-law Wayne Garrett, three nephews Matthew, Chris, and Sterling, two nieces Ashley and Michelle, and his grandchildren. He is also survived by his devoted friend Janice and her sons Jonathan and Jason, and his faithful companion “Jesse.” Richard was retired from Nabisco after 39 years of service. The family received friends Wednesday, at the Monaghan Funeral Home, Mechanicsville, where a celebration of Richard’s life was held. David A. Price, 67, of Ruther Glen, the widower of Doris Ann Price, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014. He was preceded in death by a son, Stevie Price; and a stepdaughter, Kim Nealan. He is survived by two sons, Duane Price (Virginia) and David Price; a stepdaughter, Jackie Norwood; a brother, Stanley Price; three sisters, Fleda Hise, Melita Rader, and Alice Sutphin; grandchildren, Wilson Gray, Andy Price and Lacee Nealan; and a great granddaughter, Kayla Nealan. Mr. Price retired from Luck Stone. The family received friends Friday, June 13, 2014 at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Reid Chapel, Ashland, where services were held Saturday, June 14, 2014. Interment will be private.
James F. Schloemer (Col. U.S. Army, Ret.), 84, of Ashland, passed away June 13, 2014. Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy; his two daughters, Susan Sherrod (Glenn) and Carla (Tim); four grandchildren, two girls, Rachel Hildreth Nye, aka Jim’s favorite red headed granddaughter, and Rebecca Sherrod, aka Jim’s favorite blond headed granddaughter; two grandsons, Ryan Nye and Scott Sherrod; and grandson-in-law, Marshall Hildreth. Jim was predeceased by his son, James Frances Schloemer, Jr. Jim was born in Bronx, N.Y., the third of four boys. He attended the University of Alabama obtaining a degree in Geology. Jim had a 32-year career in the Army, the majority of which serving in Special Forces. He was deployed to Viet Nam twice. He was a natural born teacher who loved to share his passions with his children and his grandchildren. He had a keen intellect, a great sense of humor, enjoyed studying history, playing bridge and was a Master Gardener. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 22 at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church in Ashland. William George Tunstall, of Mechanicsville, formerly of Blackstone, passed away June 12, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorothy Tunstall; wife, Betty Hansbarger Tunstall. He is survived by his wife, Lynn T. Tunstall; his daughter, Beth Tunstall Wood (Richard); grandchildren, Jake and Lauren Wood; sister, Joan E. Tunstall; stepchildren, Elizabeth and Daniel (Allison) Longest; and step-grandson, Jacob. He was a proud graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in Building Construction, where he was also a member of the Corps of Cadets D Squadron. He served in the National Guard. The family received friends Sunday, June 15, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Monday, June 16, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Hanover.
