Katherine M. “Peanie” Apperson. April 24, 2014, while in a peaceful and calm sleep, Katherine answered the Master’s call and went to her Heavenly home. Her life began July 4, 1919, one of eight children born to the late Kate and Joseph Goin in Henrico County. She retired from Philip Morris Tobacco Company after 23 years of service. Katherine loved doing all types of crafts and especially making quilts, playing cards and Bingo with her friends. She was a member of Mechanicsville United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women Lucy Blanton Circle. Katherine spent all but seven years of her life in the Mechanicsville area going to live with her daughter in Yorktown in 2007 until the end. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James Clyde Apperson, who was the guy next door; and her parents, Joseph and Kate Goin; four brothers, Linwood, David, Bernard and Joseph Goin; three sisters, Helen Goin, Lois Atwell and Elsie Brown. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Sue Rohrbach (Wayne) of Yorktown; and son, James Gayle Apperson (Pat) of Mechanicsville; grandchildren, Jimmy Apperson of Florida, Kathy A. Lett (Henry) and Aaron Apperson of Mechanicsville, Kimberly R. Baker (Rich) of Pacific, Wash. and Shawn Rohrbach (Greta) of Gloucester Point, Va; five great-granddaughters, Melissa, Rachel and Samantha Lett and Alexandria and Hannah Baker; two great-grandsons, Dylan and Hayden Brotherton; and one great-great-granddaughter, Rileigh Mae Kahl; sister-in-law, Netta A. Thomas of Mechanicsville; nieces, Norma B. Church (Clay) and Becky G. Harkins (Bill); and many more nieces and nephews. A special thank you goes to her caregivers, Natalia Conley and Eula Faye Livengood of Yorktown, who made life a whole lot better for all of us and words will never be enough expressing our gratitude. The family received friends Tuesday, April 29, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, where a service celebrating Katherine’s life was held Wednesday, April 30, with Rev. Barbara Hale Carr, 76, of Ashland, passed away into the arms of God April 27, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Paul Carr. She is survived by three children, Janet Spencer (Mike), Cindy Weston (Brad) and Sharon Johnson (Brad). She is also survived by six grandchildren, Josh, Ben and Amanda Spencer; Cody and Kyle Weston; and Anna Johnson; sister, Nina Hale (Smitty) of Quinton; brothers, Richard Fred Hale (Betty) of Staunton and Michael Hale (Debbie) of Elmont; and other beloved family and friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Richard (Dick) Hale and Virginia B. Hale; and a nephew, Mark Hale of Staunton. Barbara was a proud graduate of Henry Clay High School and Radford University. She worked for Best Products Co. and at the Hanover County Public Schools Central Office from which she retired in 2003. She was a long-time member of Ashland Christian Church where she served as deaconess. She was a loving sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend. Her memory will be cherished forever. Visitation will be held at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Reid Chapel, Ashland, Wednesday, April 30, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Ashland Christian Church Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Woodland Cemetery, Ashland. Lois Lorraine Coleman, 91, of Glen Allen, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Born in Lorton, Va. June 14, 1922, to the late Florence G. and Ernest A. Petitt Sr.; she was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Coleman Sr.; and brother, Ernest A. Petitt Jr. Lois is survived by her five sons, Robert W. Coleman Jr. (Cathi), Donald W. Coleman Sr. (Darlene), Gary P. Coleman (Janice), James Michael Coleman Sr. (Kathy) and Stephen A. Coleman (Toni); as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She traveled with her husband, Bob, while he was in the Air Force. In her early years, Lois worked in administration at the District of Columbia Department of Corrections. They settled in Lorton, where they raised their five sons, later moving to Florida and ultimately to Richmond, where that became home. Her family admires her strength and strong desire to live. At 91, Lois learned how to walk with a prosthesis. She overcame many rough roads but this was one battle that was stronger than her. Lois will always be remembered. The family received friends Sunday, April 27, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, where services were held. Interment private. William “Bill” Holt, 86, of Richmond, returned to the Lord Tuesday, April 22, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel; daughter, Connie; and brothers, Jimmy and Raymond. He was a retired engineer with Reynolds and a member of IATSE 87 Stagehands for over 50 years. Surviving are daughter, Karen; son-in-law, Ray; son, Jerry; grandsons, Blake and James; granddaughters, Terri and Traci (Jeff); and great-grandsons, Braden and Carter. The family received friends Sunday at Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, where services were held Monday, April 28. Interment Forest Lawn.
Betty Williams Morrison, 73, of Mechanicsville, passed away April 28, 2014. She was born April 21, 1941 in Richmond. She was preceded in death by her husband, Linwood “Gene” Morrison. Surviving is a son, James L. Nestor Jr.; daughters, Gloria Nestor and Lori Talley (Donald); grandchildren, Brian and Devon Rowland, Matthew and Michael Talley, Jessica Kreider and Steven E. Morrison Jr.; great-grandchildren, Braelyn Rae Talley and Shane and Avery Kreider; sister, Constance W. Combs; other relatives and many friends. She was a retired employee of C&P Telephone Company. Family received friends Tuesday, April 29, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, where funeral services were held Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.
