FOOTBALL: The fifth annual Big River Rivalry, an all-star high school football game pitting top seniors from North of the James River against players from the South, will take place Saturday at 1pm at Day Field on the campus of Randolph-Macon College, and ten county players have been named to the North squad.

Atlee and Lee-Davis each earned three participants, as Cameron Foreman, Robbie Adelstein and Sepp Shirey of the Raiders, and Ty Mills, Jeb Boswell and Jalen Hargrove of the Confederates were honored. Hunter Hart and Terrance Oxendine of Patrick Henry earned roster spots, as did Eric McLemore, Jr. and Michael Wilcox of Hanover.

The game is sponsored by the Touchdown Club of Richmond. Tickets will be sold at the gate with proceeds benefiting Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. Additional information can be found on Twitter at @BigRiverRivalry.

VOLLEYBALL: Kylie Tuxford of Hanover placed a cap on her high school volleyball career by being named First Team Class 4 All-State by the Virginia High School League earlier this month. Teammate Megan Kratzer, a junior, earned Second Team All-State honors.

Tuxford, who will continue her playing career at Radford University, had earlier been named the Region 4B Girls Volleyball Player of The Year by the region’s coaches. Tuxford and Kratzer were joined on the All-Region First Team by teammate Quinn Kellogg, while Olivia Everhart of Hanover was named Second Team All-Region.

Greg Knight of Hanover was named Region 4B Girls Volleyball Coach of The Year.

In boys volleyball, Michael Townsend of Class 4 State Boys Champion Patrick Henry earned Class 4 Western Section Coach of The Year honors, as the Patriots placed five players on the All-Section Team, while Hanover added three.

Adam Lane, Jarrett Carrano, Jaxon Delgado, Luke Puckett and Connor Logan all earned First Team All-Region accolades for the Patriots, while Turner Cole and Griffin Meyers of the Hawks, too were named First Team. C.W. McIlhenny of Patrick Henry and Brendan English of Hanover were named to the Second Team.

In Region 5B, Atlee’s Kyra Walden and head coach Curtis Carpenter swept Region Girls Volleyball Player and Coach of The Year honors. Walden was joined on the First Team All-Region by teammate Tabatha Green, while Chaise Tyler and Annie Jarvis of Atlee, and Tori Crabbe and Mackenzie Wright of Lee-Davis were named to the Second Team.

For boys, Cole Schlothauer of Lee-Davis was named Region 5B Player of The Year, joined by teammate Aaron Milstead and Atlee’s Michael Norris on the region’s First Team. Mason Ellenberger of Atlee and Brandon Halphen of Lee-Davis were named Second Team All-Region.

BASKETBALL: Randolph-Macon College will hold its 2017 Winter Primetime Basketball Camp in two sessions next week over Winter Break. The first session is December 18th and 19th, the second December 20th and 21st, and are for players in grades three through ten.
