Virginians watched the polls tick away on primary election day, hoping to see their candidate’s name reach the top of the pack.
For governor, Ed Gillepsie just barely beat at-large chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors Corey Stewart for the Republican nomination by a little over 1 percent. Former lieutenant governor Ralph Northam secured nearly 56 percent of the Democrat votes, surpassing newcomer Tom Perriello in the primary.
Attorney Justin Fairfax secured the Democratic nomination for Virginia’s lieutenant governor, beating retired federal prosecutor Gene Rossi, and former lobbyist Susan Platt.
State senator Jill Vogel beat Bryce Reeves and Del. Glenn Davis for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor.
