Editorial: A time to reflect
Memorial Day is Monday.
It’s hard to express in words our true gratitude for those who have fallen in defense of our country.
Thank you really doesn’t cut it.
How can two words adequately repay the debt we owe our fallen soldiers?
If not for their sacrifices, we wouldn’t be able to sit here in a newspaper office and utilize our First Amendment rights week after week.
If not for their sacrifices, our homeland might be a completely different place. The freedoms we all take for granted might not exist.
So this Memorial Day, perhaps the best way to honor our war dead is to take a look around you, realize those small, daily freedoms, and take a moment to think about the sacrifices in foreign lands that were made on your behalf.
Maybe, if we all do that, we’ll come a little closer to truly “thanking” the fallen.
