The No BS! Brass Band is set to perform at Hanover High School.

No BS! Brass has performed at the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, the Festival of New Trumpet Music, and on National Public Radio’s Tiny Desk Concert series. Voted Best Band in 2012 by Virginia Living Magazine, Best Richmond Jazz Artist by Style Magazine, and Best Local Jazz Combo by Richmond Magazine, the band was recently highlighted in a Wall Street Journal article as one of the top 10 concerts of 2013.

From their website: “No BS! Brass takes the New Orleans brass band into uncharted territory, fearlessly combining elements of James Brown, John Coltrane, Michael Jackson, and Led Zeppelin into their fiercely original sound.”

No BS! Brass band trombonist Bryan Hooten is part of the HHS Marching Band staff and arranged the music for the Marching Hawks’ 2013 show, “N’awlins.” Bryan teaches private trombone lessons to a number of HHS students and is also an adjunct instructor at VCU, where a number of HHS Band alumni perform for the Rams. Hanover band students have also been privileged to have No BS! Brass trumpet player Marcus Tenney work with the trumpet section.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will support the Hanover High Band programs. Tickets are available for presale for $8 plus fee using a credit card or PayPal, or for $10 (cash or check only) at the door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. the night of the performance and the box office opens at 6 p.m.; concessions will be available for sale between sets.
